I know polyester and other man made fabrics have their time and their place. Cotton and silk aren’t the most efficient fabrics for gym clothes. However, I don’t like polyester in general.
If you didn’t know, polyester is made of plastic so the production of the fabric terrible for the environment. Which also means, it takes a long time for the fabric to break down and decompose. It’s not very breathable so it’s not great for the summer but it also doesn’t keep you that warm so it’s not great for winter either. There’s so many factors as to why polyester isn’t a good fabric but I have personal gripes against it.
If you are a shopping addict/fashion lover like me, you’ve probably felt the thin cheapness of fast fashion 100% polyester clothes. Somehow the plastic bag it came in is thicker than the cloth.
Picture this: you’re in a Ross or a TJ Maxx and you’re browsing… when all of a sudden, this agitating, grating fabric puts you to a halt. You feel it. The slippery yet itchy feeling of 100% polyester. And it’s a shame bc the garment itself looks cute but feels awful. It’s in everything, tops, pants, skirts oh my.
Again, I understand that there is a time and place for polyester. A small amount of polyester can provide stability for a garment in order to keep its shape. But there’s a lot of pieces that don’t need nor should have polyester in it. T-shirt. A simple, full cotton t-shirt will last longer and feel better than polyester. Jeans. I can understand putting some elastane in a pair of jeans for better stretch but polyester??? In my jeans?? No thanks.
In our world today, it’s hard to stay away from synthetic fabrics. We can’t control what major retailers sell to us but we can control what we buy. So next time you’re think of buying something cute and you check the care label and you see polyester? Don’t.
