Style Profile: @shotsbysage

Written by Tiffany Lauren Jamero

This week’s Fashion Friday post is dedicated to a member of the Lights Off Media team, Sage! Sage joined the Lights Off Media team in 2024 as one of our talented photographers. Outside of photography, we admire Sage’s unique personal style.

Describe your personal style in three words.

Playful, comfortable and flexible.

What are your biggest style influences?

My biggest style influences come from my grandmother and my sister. I would say they have definitely shaped the way dress. Their style is quite flamboyant but in a way it’s still timeless.

Are there any movies or tv shows that inspire you?

I would say as of recently most of my style inspiration comes from the anime Nana. Between both Nana Osaki and Nana Komatsu there is a lot to pull from. Other than that I don’t think I take much inspiration from movies or tv shows.

Describe your three favorite pieces in your closet right now.

My first favorite piece from my closet is chunky silver bear Tous necklace from the Antique Mall of America. The next piece in my closet I’ve been obsessed with recently is a vintage crushed velvet mini dress from Maurice’s it has become one of my staple concert outfits in the past month. Finally, the last piece in my closet that I really like is a pair of light wash Levi jorts!

What are your favorite brands/designers?

Currently some of my favorite brands include UNIF, BDG, Baggu, and Tous.

Do you thrift? If so, where’s your favorite local place to thrift?

I really enjoy thrifting. Some of my best finds have been at Savers and Buffalo Exchange in the Downtown/Arts District area! Along with that Depop and Mecari also make up a lot of my second hand shopping.

If you have advice for anyone who wants to find their personal style?

My advice for someone looking to find their personal style is to not limit yourself. If you feel like something will look good on you, even if it’s out of your normal style/aesthetic, still try it on because you may just end up loving it. I personally found that when I would limit myself or try to fit into certain boxes of aesthetics is when I felt the most lost with my personal style. Allowing myself the freedom to pick and choose from a ton of different styles and aesthetics set me free and ultimately has led me to where I am with my personal style today. Finding something you really connect with and adding it into your style goes a long way as well. Not so long ago I found out I really enjoy “oddity” pieces and was able to work that into my style. Jewelry made out of ethically sourced animal teeth and things like that. Personally I always like to keep a variation of an animal tooth necklace in my rotation. A big tip I learned is if you ever feel like your outfit is missing something, throw on a few accessories. A necklace stack and/ or a few rings can really create dimension within an outfit. It’s truly trial and error, but allowing yourself to have fun with what you’re wearing is what’s the most important!
